Fountain Brochure #1 – Purpose & Scope
GREETINGS!
The W.K.F.L.
FOUNTAIN OF THE WORLD is the training ground for the 144,000 Elect, and is one
of the world’s outstanding humanitarian service organizations.
Location
Located in the beautiful Santa Susana Mountains just 45
miles northwest of Los Angeles, overlooking the San Fernando Valley, and near
Chatsworth Lake and the picturesque Simi Valley, lives this intriguing group of
people, wearing flowing robes of various colors, walking in bare feet, and
having long hair. The brothers wear
beards.
Robes
The gray, brown, lavender, and many other colors of their
robes distinguish the different arts and professions which they represent. Nursing, electronics, carpentry, photography,
music, art and drama are but a few of the talents found among these joyful
people.
“Love ye one another.”
The amazing common denominator found at the W.K.F.L.
Fountain of the World is Peace of Mind and the burning desire and manifestation
of the beautiful philosophy: “Love ye one another; serve ye one another.”
Fountain Greeting
A new arrival or visitor at the Fountain is welcomed with
the warm embrace of true brotherly love which is a symbol to all Fountain
members, and a reminder of the fact that their Order embraces all religions,
philosophies and races of people. They
believe there is good in all.
Trial Periods
There is a three-day visiting period, followed by a
three-month probationary period for prospective members. At the close of these, a vow of membership is
taken by each person who desires to join, if he is found worthy; at this time
the applicant receives a robe for the first time. The vow is that the member will wear the
robe, go barefooted, and let his hair (and beard, if the applicant is a male)
grow until peace and brotherly love are established throughout the world. All are quick to point out that they are
working for this Peace. They believe it
cannot come through war or prayer, but only when mankind live together as brothers
and sisters, regardless of religious beliefs or the color of the skin. The Fountain members believe that this goal
can be reached through a communal way of life where all needs are provided by
working together and sharing all things.
Administration
A Board of Directors governs and administers the temporal
functions of the group. No member works
outside the Fountain for wages. All
members are on twenty-four hour call for disaster and emergency work, and
cannot be obligated by regular work for monetary gain on the outside. The physical needs of its members are
provided by the Fountain. The Fountain
is supported by the tireless and unselfish hard work of its members and by
financial donations and material donations from its friends and those who see
the beauty and the sincerity of the service rendered by the Fountain through
its loyal and devoted membership.
Humanitarian Service
Humanitarian work done by the Fountain frequently has been
portrayed during the national and local disasters by television and news
photos. Several stories have appeared in
national magazines commending this small group for outstanding work during
disasters and while helping people in time of need.
Floods, fires, earthquakes, airplane crashes, searching
parties, are but a few of the major disasters where the Fountain has demonstrated
its desire and ability to be of help in time of need. Providing a home for homeless widows and
their children who cannot qualify for adequate State or Federal aid, bringing
unity and comfort to members of homes that have been broken because of domestic
problems and misunderstandings, bringing assistance where there is sickness in
homes, plus numerous other humanitarian acts, keep this group of people
constantly “on the go” trying to help.
Humanitarian
Service is performed for patients in hospitals and for many clubs and
organizations. A talented choir, singing
many of their own original tunes and words, has brought joy and cheer to many a
despairing mind. Their music and comedy have
been declared by many as refreshing and unusual – “top-notch.” Their Christmas caroling has brought joy to
thousands in the Los Angeles and Ventura areas during the Christmas seasons. Good cheer and Peace of Mind are demonstrated
by these musical contributions.
Goal
“W.K.F.L.” stand for Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, and Love, the
guiding principles of the Fountain of the World. The following ideals seem most completely to
set forth the goal that the Fountain is striving for as it follows the
inspirational pathway of Humanitarian Service.
1. SPIRITUAL
UPLIFTMENT conveys the feeling of the Fountain members that they must unite in
harmony and brotherly love. By so doing,
and by living the laws of God, they obtain Peace of Mind and are able to help
many who come to them confused and discouraged from a frustrated and perplexed
world. Thousands have been helped and
even though they did not remain as Fountain members, yet they look forward to
being with Fountain members again, because of the members’ devoted sincerity in
holding to the inspiring principles of the Fountain way of life.
2. ECONOMIC SECURITY
is the second principle of the Fountain, a condition which will result in the
Fountain’s being completely self-supportive, with all its needs met through the
development of timber lands, wheat acreage, mines, farm land, etc. A need in one area will be filled by a part
of the abundance in another section of the W.K.F.L. The Fountain is to have a workable plan that
will provide for the needs of each of its members and many of the thousands of
families that will need help during such a national catastrophe as a depression
or inflation.
3. SCIENTIFIC
ADVANCEMENT, the third principle, will result in one of the best equipped and
modern scientific laboratories that exist in the world today. The doors of this laboratory and the Fountain
will be open to all college graduates and any qualified people interested and
trained in scientific research in any of the fields of science. Nothing of a destructive nature will be
permitted to be created in these laboratories.
All research must be dedicated and directed toward the goal of raising
the standards of living and the preservation of life.
Peace of Mind
The Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount are the
basic spiritual laws lived by all members.
The practice of these laws over a period of years has proved to the
satisfaction of all that the keeping of them is the only philosophy that leads
to peace of mind. These laws have been
found to be a common factor in practically all of our major religions and
philosophies in the world today.
One of the teachings of the Fountain is: “In nature is the
answer to the Infinite; take the time to study it well.” We must learn to live with and control
insects, rodents, or animals considered by man as nuisances, rather than taking
the destructive method of taking their lives.
Youth
A very active program is available to the youth. The L.T.U. (Love, Truth, Understanding), made
up of children from the ages of nine to
eighteen years, constantly amazes on-lookers by its ability to maintain a just
jurisdiction its members. A Board of
Directors conducts its activities. This
Board is elected by the youth membership from its own ranks, and is responsible
for discipline, work assignments, hobbies, and good administration. The L.T.U. Advisor, a former Denver school
teacher, provides an inspirational summer school and counseling function for
these youths. The instructors in public
schools attended by these L.T.U. members have acknowledged leading students and
outstanding athletes among Fountain youth.
Actually,
the children at the Fountain and those who may come to the Fountain in the
future, will finish their eighth grade and high school requirements and will be
sent on to college by the Fountain. No
child is eligible to become a member of the Fountain until he is eighteen years
of age, and then only if he can convince Fountain officials that he wishes to
dedicate his life to Humanitarian Service.
He owes no obligation to the Fountain for the training he has
received. It is enough that he goes into
the world and lives the “good life”.
The lives of all youth in the Fountain and in the world are
of great concern to the WKFL Fountain of the World, and continuous research is
carried on to find a better way to help our youth of today to become better
citizens of this fast-changing world.
Talents Used
New members find endless opportunities opening for them as
they continue in the Fountain activities.
Many life-time ambitions have been realized by these people who have
dedicated themselves into service unto their fellowman in his time of
need. Photography, construction, art,
music, drama, electronics, college degrees, are some of the dreams that have
been realized by present members.
World-Wide Expansion
The Fountain is constantly training its members for a
world-wide expansion of their communal way of life. Leaders from India, South America, Italy and
Sweden have expressed the desire for such communities to be started in their
countries by the W.K.F.L. Fountain of the World. All branches so formed in foreign countries
will be called “Founts”, and members will be dedicated to the communal way of
life, brotherly love, humanitarian service work and the living of the laws of
Good Brotherhood. The expansion program
has started with a “Fount” located on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Here, 480 acres of potential farming land are
presenting a challenge to the group who are working their way by the sweat of
their brows as they race against nature and time to raise their crops and build
their buildings. One day the W.K.F.L.
Fount in Alaska will be a showplace of the Northwest.
Fountain Rules
The Fountain way of life, or should we say, “philosophy”, is
consolidated in a brief manner in its Eleven Rules. All members are:
1.To forget the
outside world. (Jealousy, greed,
superstition, hatred, condemnation, etc., are of the world, and are not to be
brought in or to manifest in the W.K.F.L. Fountain of the World.)
2.To become
familiar with the inside workings of one’s self. (Know thyself, and become a good care-taker
of this physical body or temple in which you express and over which you are the
care-taker.)
3.To become
unified with one another spiritually, mentally, and physically. (Get along with one another. Have a purpose in life.)
4.To forget
self. (Do good for goodness’ sake and
forget selfish desires.)
5.To create a
desire within one’s self toward higher spiritual equality. (As good as you are, try to be better.)
6.To obtain
wisdom. (Search for Truth. Keep an open mind.)
7.To search for
understanding in all things.
8.To face
problems without thought of escape.
9.To become
absorbed in love toward all things, seen and unseen, and so fulfill the laws of
God. (An inevitable result of fully
living the preceding rules.)
10.To let the Spirit descend upon you.
(Let the Spirit of Good be the light that guides your life.)
11.To become teachers, not in the world, but in the Fountain, that all men
who come out of the world shall find comfort in our midst. (The greatest reward available to man in
mortality is Peace of Mind.)
Utopia
The opportunity to live and experience the communal way of
life, brotherly love, and security, as well as their desire to be of help to
their fellowman, brings many to the Fountain.
The Spiritual Body, the Aaronic Priesthood, presents an inspiring goal
of which many new members had never heard before entering the Fountain. The great love, compassion, inspiration, and
wisdom that are demonstrated by the dynamic Leader of the Aaronic Priesthood
and the Order of Melchizedek, has turned many a person to a higher goal in
life.
Aaronic Priesthood Members and Order of Melchizedek Members
earn their rise out of the W.K.F.L. Fountain of the World through their zeal in
living the Laws of the Fountain, their complete dedication unto the Service of
their fellowman and the burning determination to forge ahead with undying
loyalty to the Cause.
Embraces All Religions
The W.K.F.L. Fountain of the World has no affiliation with
any of the existing religions. In the
Fountain, all religions are being lived, their good points stressed and made
manifest. Many of the members who were
former members of the church established by Joseph Smith are finding the United
Order, so desired by him, being exemplified here by this sincere group of
loving people.
Brotherly love, sincerity, peace of mind, opportunity for
expression of talents, humanitarian service, fulfillment of prophecy, are all
factors in the fast-growing fellowship known to the world as the W.K.F.L.
Fountain of the World.
Membership
People interested in membership spend three days as guests
of the Fountain, during which time they observe its operation and become
familiar with its way of life and goals.
If still desirous of considering membership, they spend three months as
probationary members, letting their beards and hair grow, going barefoot, and
joining in with regular Fountain work schedules and activities to see if it is
truly a way of life they desire. If they
prove themselves worthy at the end of the three months’ period, they are given
the opportunity to become members and wear the robes. Until the completion of the three months’
period, probationary members are free to leave the Fountain without obligation.
